Many patients who come in to our clinic with Traditional Medicare (defined as Medicare Part A and B) often do ask “Does Medicare cover hearing aids?”, While Traditional Medicare Does not cover hearing aids, there are many nuances that should be noted when discussing what is and is not covered by your particular Medicare plan.
What Hearing Care Does Traditional Medicare Cover?
At this point in time Traditional Medicare covers the following Audiology Services for people:
- Diagnostic hearing tests: patients are allowed to have one hearing test per year covered by Traditional Medicare.
- Balance Testing: with a physician referral patients can receive balance testing and treatments covered
Do Medicare Advantage Plans Cover Hearing Aids?
Medicare Advantage Plans (defined in Medicare Part C) do often carry a set allowance for a hearing aid benefit. If you have a Medicare advantage plan you can check with your provider to determine if you have a hearing aid benefit.
If you have a hearing aid benefit you can have your Medicare Advantage representative refer you to an Audiologist within their network.
Once you go to the referred Audiologist you will then have your hearing tested and if you qualify for hearing aids you will often be given the option to pay for hearing aids directly through your Medicare Advantage provider and once the hearing aids are delivered to the Audiologist, you’ll be able to fit.
At Integral Audiology we are currently in network with UHC Medicare Advantage plans that provide a hearing aid benefit.
Do Medicare Supplement Plans Cover Hearing Aids?
Medicare Supplement plans designed to cover out-of-pocket costs like deductibles and coinsurance under Original Medicare. Unfortunately, Medigap policies generally do not cover hearing aids either.
Other Options for Hearing Aid Coverage.
At Integral Audiology we work with Care Credit which provides up to 12 months of interest free financing to cover the cost of hearing aids for those patients who have want to take the next step in protecting their health but do not have the means to pay for the full cost out of pocket.
